Following a very long drive into the Fens, all of the U15's gathered in the changing rooms discussing what they wanted to achieve today. The only option they came up with was a convincing win. They certainly achieved this and demonstrated what 3-4 excellent training sessions can do to our core skills and decision making in high pressure games.
The lads started playing with a wind from behind knowing that territory would be easier to control with this wind. However they also understood that the second half would need to be managed well to keep the pressure on the opposition. These young men made fantastic decision after fantastic decision and were to end the first half with 5 tries and 2 conversions to us and zero points in reply. A perfect execution of the kind of exciting rugby we know these boys like to play. We stretched the opposition defence from touchline to touchline, with forwards linking with backs and backs running lines off of anyone with the ball in hand. We had periods of playing tight with the forward pods, playing wide with the backs and playing over with an excellent kicking game.
The second half saw much of the same execution for the opening 5 minutes, then we started to try and score off of first phase...This put extra pressure on our support play and allowed Wisbech to slow our progress down enough for them to re-organise in defence. Our try scoring slowed considerably until the lads adjusted and went through multiple phases again. Dragging the larger Wisbech players from wing to wing, eventually created the space for our wingers to get outside them and score 4 unanswered tries in the second half.
In summary, a performance to be very proud of! With additional strength still to come back to the team we are looking good for the Final.
