Everyone in the SWRFC U16's were looking forward to having enough players to field a full team for the game today. We travelled to Shelford with 17 players allowing us two finishers on the bench.
The Game started very positively with the opening 7 minutes being played in the Shelford 22, unfortunately we were unable to put any points on with this passage of play. Shelford then kicked very accurately and kept us in our own 22 for the rest of the first half. Shelford worked very good try out wide after minute 12 and converted to take the score to Shelford 7 - SWRFC 0.
After 18 minutes gone we ran in a try from our own 22 following a few very good lines, and excellent hands to release Ollie Rogers in space just inside our own half. Shelford 7 - SWRFC 7.
Shelford maintained the territory dominance for the remainder of the half and won a penalty inside our 22, which they decided to kick. Shelford 10 - SWRFC 7. The rest of the first 35 minutes were made up of defence by the SWRFC lads and two further tries for Shelford. Half time had the score at Shelford 24 - SWRFC 7.
Shelford scored a further two unanswered tries and a penalty before making any substitutions in the second half to take the score to Shelford 39 - SWRFC 7. The lads dug deep and tried to bring the game back with 20 minutes left on the clock but unfortunately today was not the day for a big comeback.
Well done SWRFC U16's, you should be very proud of yourselves and enjoy the wonderful comments from the Cambridgeshire U16 manager who was scouting for Eastern Counties U16 players. He was very impressed with the conduct and skill level of all our players. The referee also said he would love to referee you guys again as you were a credit to yourselves and our club.
