Eton Manor 10 Saffron Walden U17 24
After blowing out the cobwebs on Friday night at the Cambridgeshire cup competition where the team finished a creditable 3rd, SWRFC U17 traveled to Eton Manor in Wansted to compete in their 1st Essex league game of the season.
Eton Manor started well using their big powerful forwards to gain territory but all too often the Walden defense forced the error. Nik Baker, Emiel Pronk and Scott Loader competed well in the loose but all too often were muscled off the ball. Eton manor kept up the pressure but after 20 minutes without a score, frustrated, they attempted a chip and chase, Walden capitalised from a poor kick Sam Barrett expertly took control and ran 60 meters to touchdown under the posts for Walden's 1st try of the season. It wasn't long before David Butcher & Nik Baker scored a try each, 2 conversions from Richard Gough 0-19 at half time.
Eton Manor, determined not to be humiliated on home soil upped their game, but the Walden defense remained resolute. Some inspired kicking from Gough eventually results in another try this time from Captain Mark Kimberley. Eton Manor did manage a couple of scores in the last 10 minutes both in the corners unconverted. Man of the match, Prop Nik Baker.

The next League game will be at Henham in 2 weeks vs Chingford. Anyone interested in joining this team please make contact through the website www.swrfc.co.uk/youth
A magnificent start to the season.
